A roster looks like a plain grid, but every row is someone's week. It decides when you get to sleep, see the people you love and recover. In shift work the roster sits at the heart of everyday life, even if it's often dismissed as just a schedule.

A good roster feels fair and predictable. A bad one shows up as fatigue, stress and the sense that your own life is out of your hands. The same planning that looks like mere logistics has a direct effect on how people cope and feel.

Technically it's an unusually interesting problem. Working-time laws and collective agreements are complex, rest periods and skills have to line up, and costs have to stay under control. Solving the rules is hard, but making it clear and smooth enough to genuinely enjoy using is even harder. Most systems manage one at best.

That's exactly why we build Sutja. We want to handle the rules and the math so well that planning becomes humane and people cope better. When something seemingly small, like shift planning, is done properly, it makes many people's everyday lives a little better. The name is a promise, too: in Finnish, things that run smoothly run 'sutjakkaasti', and that is exactly how shifts should fall into place.
